Energy Efficiency Opportunities

National Australia Bank is a participant in the Australian Federal Government's Energy Efficiency Opportunities Program under the Energy Efficiency Opportunities Act 2006 (Cth). We have been a participant in this program since 2006. This Program is administered by the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism.

Energy efficiency is an important part of NAB's response to climate change and is a key component of the the initiatives we have in place to deliver on our Climate Change Strategy and commitment to be carbon neutral by September 2010.

In 2009, National Australia Bank’s (NAB) total energy use was 636,977 GJ in Australia. To date we have completed assessments at our two major data centres, 13 major office buildings and 221 retail branches, as well as undertaking representative assessments of signage illumination across our branch network, and remote shutdown of laptops and desktops across our building portfolio.

The assessments complied with the intent and key requirements of the Energy Efficiency Opportunities Program and have identified significant opportunities for achieving energy efficiency.  The assessed sites completed during 2009 are responsible for 205,052 GJ of energy or 32% of NAB’s overall energy use, bringing the total percentage since the commencement of the Energy Efficiency Opportunities Program to 68%.
